This is tough! Only a FEW stillframes? *sigh* hmmm, ok, I'll try to keep it to 5.
1) That embarrassed face of mine when someone flipped up my tutu after I'd danced in a pre-school ballet show and everyone discovered I didn't have any underwear on. How come I didn't have any underwear on? I don't remember that part of the story. hahahaha
2) Of my mom and I on the refugee ship, floating aimlessly until some other ship came to rescue us. This would not have been a good memory but it would remind me of what trials and tribulations my family had to go through to get here and thank God for all the blessings that we have now.
3) Me, a poor college student, sitting on the 17th floor at the Gage Residence (Univ. of British Columbia), eating cereal in a bowl at 6:00 a.m....looking out of the window ... and the expansive view of the snow-capped Canadian Rockies, glistening sunshine over the ocean, and the beautiful campus below.
4) When he told me he loved me for the first time...and as he held me close ... at the observatory on top of Berkeley Hills. All in the past, but women don't forget moments like this.
5) My friends and I were watching a meteor shower while sailing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Complete darkness except for the stars.
It's finally here. The long anticipated day that many people spend countless hours/days to prepare for. I hope everyone has a HAPPY Valentine's Day, regardless of their relationship status.
For me, today's activities are not romantic one. I've got a huge pile of work I have to conquer by the end of the day. There are also a ton of errands that need to be completed before the weekend begins since I have an international guest and I get to play tour guide. Errands like dry cleaning, washing the car, and picking up a snowboard! If someone asked me what I'd like for V-Day, I'd say a personal assistant for a week! lol
However, this Valentine's weekend should be a very fun one. I'll be with lots of friends and heck, I somehow got myself a Valentine companion. Aaah, the charm's still there. hahaha
For all those looking for love, it's not necessary to wait for Valentine's Day...you can look for it any day of the year! The retailers just help you out a little more during this time that's all. But I guess I should stick to the saying, "Love comes when you're not searching for it."
I look forward to hearing/reading about all your V-day mischiefs!
Whether you have a great Valentine's Day/Weekend lined up, just remember...Food is better than sex. In my opinion, anyway. hahahaha I plan on eating a massive amount of FOOD this weekend!
HAPPY SWEET HEARTS DAY! Get your boogie on!
Is it me or are people just more emotional during this time of the year? Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day...all things that send us to the depths of the emo world.
Insomnia sucks. I have to be awake at 5:30 a.m. and on the road by 6:30 a.m. in order to make a 9:00 a.m. meeting in San Jose (2 hour drive) with my uncle. So what do I do? I counted sheeps. Didn't work. Ok, plan b, turned on ipod to Michelle Tumes. Shuffle.
Little did I realize that there was a song on the album that would send my heart into complete devastation. As soon as the first line was sung, a tear dropped. Memories replayed in my head. I used to play this song all the time. The song reminded me of him and I gladly played it continuously when I was away from him to help me sleep. I was sailing in the middle of the ocean then. He was back home missing me as I was missing him. I was in search of that love, which was confused, and he was waiting for my heart to return. It returned, it returned with more love and conviction than when it left.
I miss him now. I still think he's lovely.
***EDIT: Oh, I can be such an emo. Reminder to self: It's called a breakup because it's broken! Move on.***
What's a new year without new experiences to learn from? It's only February but already discoveries have been made and many more await my curious nature to find.
1) Having faith is good for the soul. Hope/Faith is what keeps humanity moving, even in our most desperate and sad times. Hence, with faith, we get up again and again to try for a better day, a better life. Actually taking that leap of faith can be exhilerating...testing limits, possibilities, wills, strengths, mindsets, etc.
2) ***EDIT: I meant to say FEAR is a luxury my mind cannot afford. Sorry!*** Failure is a luxury my mind cannot afford. Yeah, I fear many things (aside from disgusting worms, bugs, and wrinkles), but mostly I fear failure, heartache, complete and utter humiliation. Still, many of my actions are automatic. My heart guides my mind more than the reverse. I know very well that the mind offers the best objective answer, but there are some things the mind should take a backseat on.
3) When one door closes, another door opens. Friends, lovers, work, career, family, material things, events, travel destinations, wants, needs, gains, losses. When I lose something, I gain something else. Something's gotta give. Balance is bullshit.
4) Show the world you care, that you actually give a shit. If nobody listens, hell, take your anger out on the treadmill in the gym. Not everyone is going to be friendly, accepting and kind...but that doesn't mean I don't give the world my best. "Exert your talents, and distinguish yourself, and don't think of
retiring from the world, until the world will be sorry that you
retire." -- Samuel Johnson
5) It's perfectly alright to be emotional. Run, stroll, scream, silence, hit, hug, cry, laugh. Whatever. What's with this new corporate bullshit that hinders women from advancement because they cry easier than men? People give Hillary shit because they don't think an emotional person can run the country. Screw that. I'm no feminist but what this world needs is a little more compassion.
6) Party like a rockstar. At least at this point in my life, it's acceptable to do so. I dance like nobody's watching. Have fun, but be responsible kids! Stay off dance poles. Minus the drugs. Avoid binge drinking. Respect yourself -- do not involve yourself in one night stands.
7) Discontentment is natural in your 20's. I'm not supposed to know the secrets to life's great successes yet. I don't know if I'll ever know all the secrets. In the meantime, travel is my only saving grace from a mental breakdown these days. Traveling just unveils the mysteries of life. I discover so many worthy things on my journeys around the globe. I learn about people, places, things. I learn about human nature. I eat delicious foods. I see incredible natural scenery and man-made architecture. I don't travel like it's my last vacation, but I do travel like it's my greatest search for the meaning of life.
8) Knowledge is power. I don't care how old I am, there are always things to learn. Education doesn't stop after a bachelor's degree. A quality education doesn't have to come from traditional schooling either...but please, keep that mind sharp. As the saying goes, "Ignorance is bliss"...but "If you think an education is expensive, try ignorance."
9) Nothing wrong with climbing the highest mountains for love...just don't look back at how far you've climbed. I'm terrified of heights.
10) Music can heal the soul. Dance to it as much as possible. Good exercise...for mind, body, and soul. Music continues to keep me happy and sad. A good song will instantly send me off to la-la-land, bring back memories or daydreams. What great sounds that can calm me when I'm irrational and enrage me when I'm too still. I discovered a new music genius...22 year-old Alison Sudol of A Fine Frenzy. I'm absolutely in love with the new CD.
Anyone wanna go snowboarding in Lake Tahoe's Sierra Ski Resort on February 17-18th? Possibly just the 18th? Let me know if you can make it out to the mountains. Thanks!
to the biggest brat in the whole wide world: you definitely know how to be a big brother. a real annoying one,
too! and we can hate each other at a moment's notice...for sure i could throw a plate at your head right now...but
family is family and i could never let you go. so once we're
rational, perhaps we can talk again. for now, i'm going to leave you
alone, but know that i love you unconditionally.
I've gotta spend $318 of my unused Southwest Airlines credit and travel by July 22nd.
Southwest flies to many exciting cities but the one place I want to see next (Quebec City, Canada) isn't anywhere near their radar. Why Quebec City? Because it just looks gorgeous from all the pictures I've seen. Montreal was pretty but I'm expecting Quebec's small-but-old-world-charm to surpass Montreal's metropolitan extravagance. Boston is another interesting city to tour but both Alex and Kathleen areridiculously busy with their grad school studies to spare time as tour guide. Both cities are not directly serviced by Southwest...I believe I'd have to fly into an airport that's close to the vicinity but will take at least an hour to get to. Hence, my disappointment.
I must find other hot spots. I'm tired of going to DC, even though I have close family and friends there who will definitely make the trip worth my time. Is it so wrong to want to go to a new destination so I can add it to my "places to see before I die" list? Maybe I should consider DC for July 4th weekend. The next holiday I have open for a "weekend getaway" is Memorial Day weekend. May seems sooo faaaar awaaay.
Even if I'd flown my mother to DC, I'd have credit left over to flyelsewhere. I can't believe I'm complaining about having to spend $. LOL What a dilemma!
Where should I visit (given Southwest flies there)?
US & Canadian places I've visited: West Coast: CA, OR, WA, NV...and Alaska! Southwest: AZ (will be there again in Oct. for Vivi's wedding), TX, NM South: FL, NC Midwest: IL, IN East Coast: NY, NJ, PA, VA/DC, MD Canada: Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal
*EDIT* Thank goodness it's been confirmed that this story is not real. Oh goodness, I've been craving sushi for too long. You'll be seeing me grubbing on sushi very soon! Yay!!!!
I got an email from my aunt...and it scared the SUSHI out of me. I'm praying that this is NOT a true story...because I love sushi too much to give it up!!! OMFG!
This is a true case of a japanese man from Gifu Prefecture who complains incessantly about a persistent headache.
Mr. Shota Fujiwara loves his sashimi and sushi very much to the extent of trying to get them as "alive and fresh" as can be for his insatiable appetite. He developes a severe headache for the past 3 years and has put it off as migraine and stress from work. It was only when he started losing his psycomotor skills that he seeks medical help. A brain scan and x-ray reveals little however. But upon closer inspection by a specialist on his scalp, the doctor noticed small movements beneath his skin. It was then that the doctor did a local anaesthetic to his scalp and discovered the cause when tiny worms crawled out. A major surgery was thus immediately called for and the extent of the infestation was horrific. See the attached pictures to the scene that one thought only a movie could produced.
Remember, tapeworms and roundworms and their eggs which abounds in all fishes fresh or saltwater can only be killed by thorough cooking and/or freezing the fish to between 4 degC - 0 degsC. The eggs of these parasites can only be killed if it is cooked or frozen to the said temperatures for a week or more. Think twice about that raw dish next time...or you might get a headache.
WARNING: PICTURES BELOW ARE INCREDIBLY DISGUSTING AND CAN MAKE YOU PUKE!!!!
I'm sure many of you have already heard the news about the trader in the French bank who lost over $7 billion. That's just crazy. Can you imagine the devastation that he caused to the bank shareholders' net worth? I'd send him to the guillotine!
The $7.09 billion that French bank Societe Generale says it was
swindled out of by a rogue trader ranks as one of the largest amounts ever lost
through fraud. Here’s a look at what it could pay for:
— 110 F-35 Joint Strike
Fighter jets
— 8 Queen Mary 2 luxury
cruise liners
— 1 week’s worth of U.S.
oil imports
— 2 Freedom Towers at
Ground Zero
— 17 million Apple
iPhones
— Nearly double Bolivia’s
foreign debt
— But only 4.75 percent of
President Bush’s economic stimulus plan
